So why consider using a consultant?

I would describe it as a form of outsourcing. If you wanted a more permanent appointment I would recommend a Non-Executive Director but as a Consultant I will generally work on a one off project and as such will not be on the pay role and can be very cost effective. To put it bluntly, if it isn’t working there are no HR procedures to follow to end the arrangement.

In my opinion and experience it is their objectivity or “outsiders view” that can be of true value to a business and arguably the most important word any Consultant will ever use is “why?”
